2. BEFORE ADVISEMENT & CLASS REGISTRATION
Determine if you must take a writing test (Accuplacer) or math survey to establish your English and Math placement.
Based on your academic record, CUNY establishes proficiency in writing and math for each student, but some academic records are insufficient. For more details, see testing FAQs.
Test and Assessment Types: Accuplacer, Local Writing Test, or Math Assessment Survey. Check your email and spam folder at least once a week, and contact [email protected] with questions. CUNY or our Testing Office will contact you via email if additional testing is required.
Accuplacer test
The Accuplacer test must be taken in person
Students from abroad must apply F1 visa and enter the US to take these tests.
Transfer students
Transfer students will need a credit evaluation completed for academic advisement. This process can take up to two weeks from the date you accepted your offer of admission. Once completed, you will receive an email notification, and your evaluation will be posted in your CUNYfirst Student Center (Academic Records > View My Transfer Credit Report). Contact [email protected] to check the status of your evaluation.
3. REGISTERING FOR YOUR CLASSES & PAYING YOUR BILL
Advisement and class registration
All new students will have an academic advising hold on their record, requiring a meeting with an academic advisor before registering for the Spring’24 semester.
New students are eligible for academic advisement once two of the following conditions have been satisfied:
Financial documents for I-20 have been submitted
Accuplacer test results updated on their record
Received official communication notifying of a completed transfer credit evaluation.
Officially notified by the college to schedule an appointment with academic advising.
You will transition from your VIP page to your MyLaGuardia portal after class registration. Access your MyLaGuardia account approximately three days after class registration, and check it frequently each semester.
Once you register for your courses, you can view your bill in the Financial Account section of your CUNYfirst Student Center. Students who do not make payment arrangements by their tuition bill due date may be deregistered. Review details on tuition, fees, and payment options, including how to set up a payment plan.
